ERC@GIANT – Prepare the future of Science

erc_logoThe European Research Council (ERC) is an EU organization that aims to promote innovation, creativity, and excellence in investigator-initiated frontier research in Europe. It grants funding to the most promising research ideas through a peer-driven selection process.

Projects can be led by starting or established researchers from any country – the only criterion is scientific excellence.

    Key figures

The ERC has a €7.7 billion budget for the 2007–2013 funding period, accounting for 15% of the EU’s Seventh Research Framework Programme’s total budget of €50.5 billion. The ERC is slated to receive €13 billion for the next funding period, from 2014 to 2020.

It has held 18 calls for proposals over the past five years, which attracted over 48,800 applications. More than 4,000 of these were selected for funding.

Building the future of European research

ERC grant winners include several Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates.
Each grant winner hires four other researchers on average, helping to train the next generation of scientists and engineers.
By end-2013 the ERC will have funded over 10,000 PhD students and over 5,000 post-doc students.

    and in Grenoble ?

The Grenoble area, through its host institutions, participate to this scientific excellence with 57 laureates granted from 2007 to 2015.

Moreover, the GIANT alliance offers with its partners, a concrete support, namely FOSTERING. This program aims at giving information and helps to researchers willing to apply for one of those competitive calls in order to conduct their research programs in one of the local host institution.

Of course, this comes on top of the assistance already provided by GIANT member organizations.

This program is now opened to other H2020 funding calls like Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) or F.E.T. programs.
