Alliance with nature to adapt to climate change

Conference Summary:

Healthy ecosystems and their biodiversity contribute to our quality of life in many ways. In addition to their role in carbon sequestration, they support adaptation to climate change through their resilience, the regulation of natural hazards, and their contribution to economic and cultural systems. Nature-based solutions harness these capacities through the conservation, sustainable management, and restoration of biodiversity. In this presentation, you will discover how these solutions can be implemented in our territories, in consultation with local stakeholders.

About the Speaker:

Sandra LAVOREL is a Research Director at the CNRS. She is a leading figure in scientific ecology. She works at the Alpine Ecology Laboratory in Grenoble (UMR UGA/CNRS/USMB). A pioneer in plant functional ecology, her research focuses on the effects of climate change and land-use changes on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. She applies these approaches to the assessment of ecosystem services and adaptation to climate change. Through her interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, she is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in the analysis of nature-based adaptation pathways.

She is also deeply involved in science-policy dialogue and has contributed to international assessments (IPBES, IPCC) and national assessments (French Assessment of Ecosystems and Ecosystem Services).
