Cancer is a major and growing societal challenge: already a leading cause of death worldwide, the global cancer burden is predicted to increase by 77% by 2050 compared to 2022 levels. A groove, identified in a protein by research carried out at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Grenoble, represents a promising target to prevent the development of chemo- and radiotherapy resistance in a number of cancers. Proteins within the broader family that promote or drive cancer could also be targeted via this groove.
