SPINTEC: spinning electronics (and Grenoble?) into the future

Grenoble is a world-renowned microelectronics hub but the downscaling that has defined the trajectory of the sector since the 1960s is approaching its limit as the size of transistors reaches mere atoms. Spintronics is a whole new paradigm which exploits not only the charge of the electron, as used in conventional microelectronics, but also the spin, reducing power consumption while increasing memory and processing capabilities.
