June 13 and 14, 2016 – French American Workshop

On June 13 and 14, 2016, GIANT sported the colours of the United States during the French-American Workshop hosted by Maison MINATEC within the framework of the GIANT International Internship Programme.

The fifth edition of this scientific event was supported by the U.S. Consulate General in Lyon, the French Embassy in Washington and the Nanosciences Foundation. It brings together key players from the academic, research and business communities and seeks to enhance French-American networking centered on opportunities in the field of Research and Industry.

The major theme of these two days is: French-American cooperation and the opportunities to gain experience in research (in particular at the doctorate level).

  • The Workshop welcomed 103 participants
  • GIIP students and american students doing an internship or PhD as part of other programs
  • PhD students and postdocs from the GIANT campus
  • The people organizing the GIIP from both sides of the Atlantic, mainly professors
  • French and American researchers
  • The American Consul in Lyon Clayton Stanger
  • Sonia Ortega, Program Director of the NSF Europe-Eurasia Office, US Mission in the EU

The program includes:

  • conferences,
  • presentations on the work of students through poster sessions
  • visits of remarkable equipment in Grenoble
  • accounts and presentations of experience out on both sides of the Atlantic
  • various social events and receptions

A look back on the fourth edition in June 2015

  • The workshop welcomed 100 participants:
  • GIIP students and american students doing an internship or PhD as part of other programs
  • PhD students and postdocs from the GIANT campus
  • The people organizing the GIIP from both sides of the Atlantic, mainly professors
  • French and American researchers
  • A dozen representatives from various institutions who have a partnership with the GIIP (UJF, IUT1, INP, Ville de Grenoble, Fondation Nanosciences et LANEF…)
  • Two representatives from the Fullbright Commission
  • The American Consul in Lyon Clayton Stanger
  • Dr. Minh-hà Pham, Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in the United States
